Marble Cleaning

Do Your Marble Surfaces Need Cleaning?

Our marble cleaning process typically involves the use of our high pressure hot water extraction unit (up to 1200 psi) providing for the most effective cleaning method for your stone. Effective and through cleaning is crucial for a smooth looking uniform finish and proper sealing. Our unique state-of-the-art cleaning process will yield you MAXIMUM soil removal in cleaning your marble tile. We relish our client’s “Aha Moment” when they see their fresh clean marble tile floors. However, many people are confused with exactly what marble cleaning is able to achieve. If your marble surface has become dull, marble cleaning alone will not make ti look like new again. Marble polishing and/or marble restoration will be needed.

Marble Maintenance Cleaning

Marble cleaning should be part of virtually everyone’s yearly maintenance program. Undoubtedly you want to be certain you are hiring a company that actually knows what they are doing. More specifically, while many companies may appear to have a good reputation the Technician who actually performs the service may not have the same level of experience that the company itself claims to possess. Buyers beware!

There are four principal variations present in the finishes of this natural stone, which are, honed (matte), tumbled, brushed (textured), and last but not least, polished (shiny). Your professional tile cleaner should be able to successfully identify which type of marble that you have and is its ‘porosity’, or how porous is the stone. Its color, durability, porosity, and density will vary from quarry to quarry. As a side note the highest grade of marble comes from Italy. A “one-size-fits-all’ mentality is a recipe for disaster when cleaning, sealing, and restoring marble. When handled correctly marble cleaning and marble sealing can help maintain your marble tile last for decades in your home or office.

Two of The Biggest Marble Cleaning Mistakes We See

Cleaning marble requires special tools, chemicals, sealers, and protectants to prevent scratching, etching, and permanent staining. If your professional DOES NOT have the right tools, chemicals, and expertise he could permanently damage your marble stone.

CAUTION: Never clean marble with cleaning products containing lemon, bleach, vinegar, or any other type of acidic product. Also never use scouring creams or powders. These types of products will etch or scratch marble floors and cause costly marble restoration services to your budget. Also NEVER clean with a high alkaline cleaner as they will break down the sealer leaving your floors vulnerable to water stains, etch marks, and other stains. We also NEVER recommend using OxiClean or Mr. Clean Magic Eraser as a cleaner on any type of natural stone. OxiClean and Mr. Clean Magic Eraser have many beneficial uses but using it to clean your marble is NOT one of them. All our clients receive a comprehensive Stone Care Guide that addresses these issues.

The second biggest mistake we see people make is that either the home owner or their ‘professional cleaner’ will use a generic sealer from the local hardware store and now the floor has a sticky residue. Because marble is a porous stone, and because the porosity will vary based on the type of marble it is, you will need a sealer that correctly matches the type of stone you have. Our Stone Care Guide provides specific instructions for the care of your marble and other natural stone.

In many instances, when cleaning marble that is even moderately soiled the process may uncover surface scratches, small holes,  and even hairline cracks that are disguised from the soiling. Similarly, the marble maintenance cleaning may dislodge fill in the marble that is not stable. Our marble repair or marble honing process will adequately address most of those issues.
